VHD Data Recovery

Software can perform VHD data recovery in minimum possible time without any manual effort. It can recover maximum possible from corrupt VHD files and save them in their form at user-defined location.

File info
Show File Information

There's an auto-detect feature in this software that will show you the information of selected VHD file. You just need to define the disk type and select it. Right after that, you can see file information.

Dual recovery
Swift Scanning

There are two modes in this software for scanning corrupt VHD file: Standard and Advance. If corruption is minor, you can try standard scanning. But if corruption is severe, you must try advance scanning.

Recovery mode
Smart Recovery Modes

VHD Recovery tool provides you three recovery modes for handling different level of corruption, i.e. Standard, Advanced and Deep recovery modes for fixing minor, moderate and severe corruption respectively.

Support disk
Fixed & Dynamic Disks

A VHD file is saved in two different disk types, either Fixed Disk or Dynamic Disk. Be it any disk type your VHD file is saved in, you can use this software to perform VHD data recovery. You need to define the disk type before you can start scanning and recovery operation.

Partition table
Partition Tables Support

There are two partition table formats used for hard disk drive partition: GPT aka GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) partition table and MBR aka master boot record. MBR is selected by default, but if you're having GPT partition, you need to check GPT format box before you can scan VHD file.

Custom Setting
Enable Custom Settings

During advance scanning, you can define custom setting of selected VHD file, i.e. starting and ending sectors. Also, the option of custom settings for selected volume is also available before you can start VHD data recovery. You need to define start & end sectors, and also the file system.

Add custom volume
Custom Volume Addition

In case of missing volume, you can use Add Custom Volume feature to add a new volume for recovery and define its custom settings. The custom settings include Start Sector, End Sector as well as the file system in which you want to treat the selected volume, be it new or existing one.

Support file sys
File Systems Support

All popular file systems created in Windows, Mac and UNIX operating systems, are smartly supported by this software. They include FAT, FAT16, FAT32, FAT64 aka exFAT and NTFS of Windows, HFS+ of Mac, and EXTX of Unix.

RAW recovery
RAW Recovery Mode

It's very helpful in recovering more data from corrupt VHD files. It supports recovery of image (5 MB), audio (6 MB) and archive (1 GB) files by default. You just need to click Parse button to start scanning the selected volume.

Add new signature
Adding New Signatures

To recover more data from selected volume through RAW recovery mode, you can add new signatures into a new file or the existing one before you can start parsing the volume. You can define the new signatures by clicking the gear button.

Formatted drive
Support Formatted Drive

VHD Recovery software not only supports recovery from corrupt VHD file but also from formatted drive. The feature is available with Advanced Recovery mode. There's an option Is Drive Formatted. You can check it before starting VHD data recovery.

Tree preview
Tree-structure Preview

Once the scanning and recovery process of selected VHD file is completed, you can see a tree-structure preview of all the recovered data on left hand side. You can click double-click the files and check their properties before saving them.

Simplify UI
Easy-to-use Application

It's an easy-to-use application that requires no prior technical expertise. It contains an interactive and user-friendly interface that runs in a self-explanatory mode. Any technical and non-technical user can use this software with ease.

FAQ's
Virtual hard disk aka VHD is a file format that represents virtual hard disk drive (HDD). It can easily be created by using the Disk Management feature of Windows operating systems. A single system may have more than one VHD file containing data which are available on physical HDD, such as: disk partitions as well as file systems. Also, it contains files and folders, and sometimes it is used as the hard disk virtual machine. The main function of virtual hard disk is to enable users to run multiple operating systems on a single machine.

A virtual hard disk (VHD) is saved into two different types: dynamic disk and fixed disk. The major difference between these disk types is their space utilization.

  • Dynamic Disk: Though a dynamic disk has a maximum size limitation, but it is initially very small in size. When it adds the data to the disk, its size grows. As much as data you add, the size will grow by itself. Quick allocation of space, minimal space usage, over-commit of hard drive resources, etc. are few common key benefits of dynamic disk type
  • Fixed Disk: Fixed disk type is quite different than dynamic disk. When a fixed disk is created, it allocates 100% of the indicated space on the physical media. It provides fastest VHD mechanism, hence faster than dynamic disk

Windows, Mac and UNIX are few common operating systems which use different type of file systems in which your data are stored in the hard disk.
Windows File System: Windows uses different types of files systems, such as:

  • FAT: FAT, stands for file allocation table, is an old file format commonly used for small disks and simple folder structures. FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, FAT64 aka exFAT are few common FAT systems.
  • NTFS: NTFS is a new technology file system used by Windows NT operating systems for storing data on your hard disk. As compared to FAT, it has good performance, extendibility and security.
  • Mac File System: HFS Plus aka HFS+ is the primary file system of Mac OS, and it replaced the old HFS (Hierarchical File System) file system. It is the improved version of old HFS, and now supports much larger files with ease
  • Linux File System: EXT aka extended file system is used by the Linux kernel. EXT2, EXT3 and EXT4 are the other members in the extended file system family where EXTS included all these types

There are two different ways for storing the partitioning information on a hard disk drive: MBR and GPT. MBR means master boot record, and GPT means GUID partition table. MBR is old format while GPT is used in new computers for latest and more versatile technology. Before you can create partitions on a drive, you have to choose either MBR or GPT.

MBR aka master boot record

  • MBR is a special boot sector located at the beginning of a drive. It mainly contains a boot loader for the installed operating system. Also, the information about the logical partitions of drives is saved in MBR. Being an old method, it only works with disks which are up to 2 TB in size. Due to such limitation, it can't handle the disks with more than 2 TB of space

GPT aka GUID partition table
  • GPT is a new standard that has replaced MBR. It is called GUID partition table because every partition on the drive has a globally unique identifier (GUID). Unlike MBR system, it doesn't have any size limit for the drives. In fact, the size limit is simply based on the operating system and its file systems
If you are recovering data through RAW recovery mode, you can find additional file types from the selected volume. Before you can start parsing, click the Setting button shown next to [Add new signatures in new/existing file]. On the File Setting dialog box, you need to enter the file settings information, such as: file extension, starting & ending signature, size in bytes, etc. Also, users are allowed to save these entries at any location.
Yes, the VHD Recovery software supports recovery from formatted drive but only if the file system is FAT. Also, the recovery is based on how you have formatted your drive. If you have used quick format, chances for recovery are very low, or may be nothing would be recovered from the VHD file.
Yes, you can free evaluate VHD Recovery software before purchasing its licensed version. The software is available with demo version which can be freely downloaded. After successful evaluation of the software, users can purchase the licensed version of this tool if they are satisfied with the performance of demo version.
